Epcon Communities think a kid can sell me a home?

Recently I went by an Epcon Communities development in Matthews, NC. to inquire about their homes for me and my wife. My wife and I are in our 50s and we are looking to sell our large house on a large lot and buy something more convenient.

When I approached the front entrance of the sales center, I was greeted by a young man dressed in slacks shirt and tie. He seemed to be in his mid to late 20s and his slacks were wrinkled, his shirt was wrinkled and the collar of his shirt was flipped up with the tie crooked. I'm automatically thinking to myself "where is the experience here?"

I've bought and sold around 15 homes in my adult life, this kid tells me he lives in a condo, his first real estate purchase bought recently. I'm looking around the club house which is the sales center and talking to this young man about what I'm looking for in a home. I ask him several questions about the homes and he gives me a back scripted answers. Where is the sales experience here? How can I be sure this guy knows what he's talking about with true experience? He's a kid for crying out loud! I don't want a kid selling me home worth $250K, I want someone I can relate to and is closer to my age. I want someone who has been through the process of buying expensive property several times. This kid can't relate to me, I remember when I was his age and I didn't have a clue. This guy tells me he was a tech geek with Circuit City before working at Epcon Communities. I think Circuit City was a great job for this guy, why would Epcon want to hire a kid to sell homes to Baby Boomers?

After giving me his scripted shpill, I asked to see the model homes. He gives me information about the models and writes in the prices???? OK, red flag, why is he writing this information on the information sheets? Does he change the prices as he goes? Or, is he just too lazy to provide a pre-printed copy of all the information with prices? He then tells me where the models are and points in that direction. I'm thinking to myself, "are you not coming with me?" Nope, I'm out the door on my own walking down to the model. This kid had no one else looking at homes in the neighborhood and he won't even come down to the model with me.

By this time my interest is cooling off on Epcon Communities. I look in the model and think it's nice until I walk into a master bath. While looking at the bath, I look down at the floor and notice a crack in the floor tile. It happens to be a stress crack in the floor tiles just inside the threshold. I'm thinking now, no way I'm buying one of these homes. If Epcon Communities will build a model home with foundation problems, what could I expect from a home they build for me. I decided I had seen enough and started to leave. Interestingly, as I was walking past a window facing the entrance to the neighborhood I see someone leaving the complex. It was the kid sales rep from the sales center. I guess he had a hankering for a McDonald's Kid's Meal?
